The real estate sales figures for the Houston housing market varied from region to region during June 2010. While the Houston real estate market overall experienced a 3% gain in their single-family home sales from the same time last year, the Atascocita/Humble market showed an 11% decline in single-family sales, Montgomery County Southwest showed an 18% increase and Kingwood stayed exactly the same.
The increase in the overall Houston market (marking the fourth month in a row that sales were higher than the previous year's numbers) were credited to the homes purchased under the homebuyer tax credits as well as the usual summer activity.
Active listings in the Houston market were up quite dramatically over the previous year's figures. The overall Houston market increased 24% over June 2009. The Atascocita/Humble housing markets also experienced a 24% increase in active listings. The Montgomery County Southwest area saw an amazing 35% increase while Kingwood's active listings were 18% higher than last year.
The Houston area's median price for its single-family homes, however, decreased slightly overall by 3%. The median price in the Atascocita/Humble and Montgomery County Southwest markets decreased 17% while Kingwood experienced a 5% decrease in single-family homes' median prices over last year's figures.
Even though the homebuyer tax credit deadline has passed you by, good inventory, great prices and low interest rates create the perfect climate to consider investing in Houston area real estate.
